Student research in Geology

Students in Bucknell's Geology Department have many opportunities for conducting independent research with our faculty members.  Did you know that...

• Every student in our classes of 2011 and 2012 have conducted independent research;
• Currently, we have 27 geology majors - of those, 10 did research during the 2011 academic year and 11 conducted research during the summer;
• 100% of those conducting summer research applied for and received funding;
• Altogether, 17 different Geology students (63%) did  research during the past 12 months!

Research in Alaska leads to Mars

Craig Kochel and Jeff Trop published a manuscript in the journal Icarus comparing arctic mass wasting processes on Mars and Alaska.  This work has been featured in Bucknell Magazine, Astrobiology Magazine, and popular news websites.
