"Conflict and Peace in Northern Ireland (EDUC/PSYC 330)"
2011 Program Dates: May 14 - June 4
Bucknell in Northern Ireland 2011 ("BUNI' 11") is a three-week, service-learning, study-abroad program for students interested in post-conflict peace-building. The 1.5 credit course (no prerequisites) includes readings and seminar sessions during the spring semester (every other week) in addition to academic work during the three week trip. Service-learning placements are tailored to students' interests, and include public schools, trauma treatment centers, community peace-building organizations, government and political offices, arts organizations, and newspapers. The program home base is Derry/Londonderry, a vibrant, metropolitan, yet manageable city that saw much of the history of the sectarian conflict. A weekend stay in Belfast and a day trip to the gorgeous North Antrim Coast are planned as part of this year's program.
