Sept. 6, 2009: Letter to Campus Community

Sept. 6, 2009

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Earlier today a student who brought himself to Student Health Services tested positive for influenza type A, which we are presuming based on the advice of public health authorities is novel H1N1 or "swine flu." The student, who resides in the Mods, has been placed in isolation, and will be returning home later today with his father until he recovers, which generally takes five days. The University commends the student for taking prompt steps to protect himself and others. The University has informed his roommates, and appreciates their willingness to monitor themselves for symptoms of the flu and to call Student Health Services immediately should any symptoms emerge.

The University's special webpage, www.bucknell.edu/swineflu, contains important information about preventative steps you can take to protect yourself from the flu as well as links to related information. This webpage will contain the most up-to-date information about swine flu cases at Bucknell, and we will send further campus announcements if the situation warrants them.

Sincerely,

Pete Mackey, Ph.D.
Vice President for Communications
