Next swine flu vaccine distribution Nov. 12
Dear Students,
Student Health Services (SHS) will hold its third and perhaps final distribution of influenza A H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine mist to students on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Arches Lounge in the Elaine Langone Center. If you have not been vaccinated against swine flu and would like to be, this may be your last chance to do so through campus. There is no charge for this vaccine.
Please take special note of the following:
- In order to receive the vaccine, you must present your Bucknell ID.
- In keeping with regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, to receive the vaccine you will be required to complete several consent forms, which will be provided to you.
- The vaccine supplies provided to the University are the so-called "flu-mist vaccine," which is delivered via a mist sprayed into the nose. This method of vaccination is as effective as any method of delivery but is unsafe for individuals with conditions that may cause difficulty breathing, such as asthma, long term health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, or with muscle or nerve disorders as well as for pregnant women. This vaccine is recommended for healthy persons 2 to 49 years of age. More information on who may safely receive the nasal spray vaccine is available from the CDC at:
www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-flulive.pdf. - This vaccine is not for individuals with egg or gentamycin allergies.
- If you have received a flu-mist vaccine (including for seasonal flu) 28 days prior to Nov. 12, you are not eligible to receive this vaccine since having two flu-mist vaccines within that time frame is not considered safe.
Please continue to take the necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of flu. More information, including updates on presumed H1N1 cases at Bucknell, is available at www.bucknell.edu/swineflu.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Donald Stechschulte
