Fire Alarms & Safety
The United States has the highest incidence of fire injuries and fire deaths in the world. Unfortunately, some of these occur on college and university campuses. Most of these occur due to negligence or violations of the campus or local fire code.
Follow the University residence hall fire safety regulations for your own protection. Whenever a fire alarm sounds, you must evacuate the building regardless of the number or previous false alarms in your building. This alarm could be the real thing.
Know where the fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and fire exits are located in your residence hall or home and how to use them. Do not hesitate to activate a fire alarm if you see a fire or smell smoke. The Office of Housing and Residential Life provides full instruction in this area to students. Consult with your Hall Resident Assistant.
