After a national search, Stephen J. Barilar was chosen as Bucknell University's new Chief of Public Safety effective September 13, 2012.
Chief Barilar joined Bucknell's Department of Public Safety as a Staff Sergeant in March 2011 following his retirement from the Pennsylvania State Police after a 26-year career that included serving as Station Commander in three separate counties. Since he joined Bucknell, Steve has demonstrated the professional leadership qualities and appreciation for campus policing that make him ideally suited for his new responsibilities. His vision for campus safety, student education, community policing and regional cooperation will be vital to Bucknell University and the Greater Susquehanna Valley.
While with the state police, Steve served as a cultural awareness and diversity instructor, an equal employment and opportunity officer, and an incident commander on a number of assignments. He has completed numerous certification and training programs during his career and also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
