University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (USLF): studies and monitors the campus greening movement both nationally and internationally, publishes its findings in reports and papers, and also provides consulting services.
National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Program: created in 1989 to challenge and support institutions of higher education in campus greening projects. The program assists in the design and implementation of projects, provides training and technical support, and documents projects in its database.
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE): a membership-based association of colleges and universities working in partnership with businesses, NGO's and government agencies to advance sustainability in higher education in the US and Canada.
Campus Sustainability Assessment Project (CSAP): a program at the University of Western Michigan initiated in 1999 to assist colleges and universities in evaluating social and environmental performance, maintains a database of over 1,100 campus environmental audits from 13 countries.
The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP): works to support all types of planning efforts at institutions of higher education nationwide. The society also hosts a web-page specifically devoted to sustainability.
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC): sponsors Leadership Excellence in Environmental Design (LEED) certification of new and existing buildings. The council seeks to “forge strategic alliances with key industry and research organizations and federal, state and local government agencies to transform the built environment,” using a committee-based, member-driven, consensus-focused process.
Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania (GBACPA): is a local affiliate of the USGBC, and promotes education, outreach, and networking in the design and planning of green buildings.
The Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC): seeks to facilitate discourse and collaboration among environmental policy-makers and environmental studies programs in institutions of higher education across the state.
Blueprint for a Green Campus: The collaborative work of campus delegates from 50 states and 22 countries who gathered at Yale University in 1994 for the Campus Earth Summit. The report documents practical steps toward campus sustainability and defines the “green campus”.
New Energy for Campuses: Energy Saving Policies for Colleges and Universities by Apollo Alliance/Energy Action. This report covers a comprehensive list of strategies for reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources including generation, purchasing, conservation, buildings, transportation, audits, and financing, and includes many case studies for reference.

State of the Campus Environment: A National Report Card on Environmental Performance and Sustainability in Higher Education, sponsored by The National Wildlife Federation’s Campus Ecology Program, is the first comprehensive national survey of environmental initiatives at U.S. institutions of higher learning.
Penn State Indicators Report 2000: This is a groundbreaking campus environmental audit. The report analyzes PSU’s ecological footprint and serves as the basis for the university’s ecological mission statement. The report is an excellent example of the educational value of environmental audits.
