12th Annual Drew Darrow Memorial Reading

This poetry reading is open to the public and is sponsored by the Drew Darrow Memorial Fund, the Stadler Center for Poetry, and the Writing Center. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

The Drew Darrow Memorial Reading Series honors the memory of Andrew Darrow, a 1986 Bucknell graduate. A student employee of Bucknell's Writing Center, Darrow later worked as an actor in New York City. He died in 1997.

Writers at Work

The Writers at Work series, sponsored by the Writing Center, enables members of the campus community to chat informally with writers about their research, writing and revising processes.   Everyone is welcome.

Dan Wolff wrote the recently released book The Fight for Home: How (Parts of) New Orleans Came Back and produced the award-winning documentary "I'm Carolyn Parker:  The Good, the Mad, and the Beautiful," directed by Jonathan Demme. 

Tavis Smiley describes The Fight for Home as "a moving testimony to the courage and resilience of a great American city."   In addition to poetry, Wolff's other work includes How Lincoln Learned to Read, 4th of July/Asbury Park: A History of the Promised Land, and Grammy-nominated liner notes for The Complete Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers cd.

A free sneak preview of "I'm Carolyn Parker:  The Good, the Mad, and the Beautiful" will be shown Monday, September 10 at 7:30 PM in the Gallery Theatre, Langone Center 3rd floor.

A former middle-school English teacher and Teach for America alum, Jordan Sonnenblick writes for young adults and middle school readers. His novels include Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie, Notes from the Midnight Driver, Zen and the Art of Faking It, After Ever After, and Curveball: The Year I Lost My Grip.

Jordan has also written the Dodger and Me trilogy of funny fantasy books for middle-grade readers.

Sonnenblick's work has received numerous accolades, including being named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and receiving the prestigious Premio Cento prize for the Italian translation of Notes from the Midnight Driver.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 5 PM, Jordan Sonnenblick will give a public talk titled "Not Quite J. K. Rowling:  Thoughts on My Career as a Young Adult Author" in the Gallery Theater, Langone Center 3rd floor.
