What is art? Ultimately, that’s for you to decide.
At Bucknell we'll take you on an incredible journey through creative invention, cultural analysis, critical inquiry and visual imagination to help you figure it out.
In studio art, you'll get an intensive one-on-one education in painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, graphic design, multimedia, and video and performance art. Art history explores art from prehistory to the present through the Rothschild-Johnson NYC Art Weekend and culminating with the Intercollegiate Art History Symposium.
Senior students exhibit their works of art each spring at the Annual Student Art Show in the Samek Art Gallery. All studnets can exhibit their work at the annual Fall Open House.
The art department and the Samek Art Museum sponsor workshops, lectures, and gallery tours with visiting artists, critics, and historians.
The University offers Art Merit Scholarships to support emerging artists on campus.
First-year students often join the Arts Residential College where students interested in the arts (art, music, theatre, dance, creative writing, etc.) live together and share a common course.
Art history majors are encouraged to pursue study abroad and internships in galleries, museums, and other settings. Students planning to undertake off-campus or non-traditional study are expected to consult closely with their art history adviser and department chair.
Visit the art & art history blog for the current opportunities. Recently, students have interned at:
The Central Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Art History Symposium offers a chance for undergraduates to present their research, hone their speaking skills and share their ideas with an audience of their peers. Talks most often highlight senior thesis research, the results of an in-depth research or independent study project, field work and study abroad, or exceptional internship experiences.
