The chemistry department is delighted to welcome Prof. Todd Morris as a new Visiting Assistant Professor. Prof. Morris brings expertise in surface science and environmental chemistry, and is currently teaching Chem 201 lecture and laboratories this fall.
A very warm welcome to Professor George Shields who joins Bucknell as Dean of College of Arts and Sciences and as a Professor in the Chemistry Department! Prof. Shields brings his extensive expertise in computational chemistry to Bucknell. Since 2000, Shields has directed the MERCURY collaborative consortium on undergraduate computational chemistry, and currently pursues interests in structural biochemistry and environmental chemistry.
Alumni News: Congrats to Karyn Visscher (BS '85,MS '87) who accepted a position last august as a Polymer Chemist at International Specialty Products in Wayne, NJ. She is working with the Performance Chemicals division of the Household, Industrial and Institutional Products division of ISP. Karyn reports"It's good to be 'back at the bench! Congratulations to Professor Eric Tillman who has been recognized with a Henry Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award to support his group's research on cyclic polymers.
Bucknell's chemistry student club (aka - American Chemical Society Student Affiliates) is recognized with a Commendable Chapter Award by the American Chemical Society. Great job!
April 2009- Congratulations to two alums in the news: Prof. Dennis Doughery (B.S./M.S. 1974) was just elected to the National Academy of Sciences. And Prof. Amos B. Smith II (B.S./M.S. 1967) was honored with the 2008-2009 George Büchi Visiting Lectureship in Organic Chemistry at M.I.T., delivered January 22, 2009. Professor Dougherty was the 2001-2002 Büchi Lecturer as well. Honoring the late Professor Büchi through the generous support of friends and colleagues, 20 have been recognized with this honor since 1988.

April 2008 - Bryan Bzdek (B.S. '08) receives student travel award from the Clay Minerals Society to present his research at the 235th national meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans. At the meeting, Bryan was recognized by the Division of Geochemistry for having one of the "Top Undergraduate Posters."
January 2008 - The new NSF-funded atomic force microscope is installed and students and faculty are taking data. Congratutaions to Prof. Molly McGuire, the PI on the grant and co-PIs Prof. Tim Raymond and Prof. Erin Jablonski.

University of Minnesota Chemistry Professor Thomas Hoye (Bucknell BS/MS Chemistry, 1972) has isolatedand solved the structure of an important sea lamprey pheromone.
Professors Rovnyak (CHEM), Stockland, (CHEM), Strein (CHEM), Maneval (CHEM ENG), and Cunningham (PHYS), awarded $475k from NSF for high field NMR.
