Assistant Professor of Anthropology
Allen Tran received his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, San Diego in 2012. His research broadly links affect, mental health and illness, and the body with the technologies of the self associated with global capitalism in East and Southeast Asia. His current project focuses on the cultural politics and phenomenology of anxiety and anxiety disorders in post-reform Vietnam. Other interests include psychological anthropology, medical anthropology, cross-cultural psychiatry, culture and emotion theory, trauma and violence theory, post-socialism, and anthropological theories of everyday life, well-being, and happiness.
