Theatre and Dance

The study of theatre and dance explores how cultures and societies express their ideas, feelings, values and struggles. The department emphasizes collaboration, hands-on learning, imagination, curiosity and experimentation as it engages students in theatre and dance as an integral part of their liberal arts education, whether as a primary or complementary discipline. Through the creative process, students gain skills in problem-solving and professional presentation. Theory and practice combine in classes and creative laboratories where students and teachers work closely to produce fully realized live performance.
The department's artistic season sparks thoughtful dialogue in the University and surrounding community through classic and contemporary plays, devised and musical theatre, original choreography, and interdisciplinary work created by students, faculty and guest artists. These productions imaginatively explore different cultures and perspectives, giving voice to the human experience.
