2009 is the tercentenary of the birth of Samuel Johnson, one of the great writers of eighteenth-century England whose writings in a variety of genres continue to challenge and extend our philosophical, moral and literary experiences.
Johnson Tercentenary Events are scheduled around the world.
Bucknell's Charles H. Watt's Humanities Institute hosted a celebratory event: Johnson at Bucknell, A Tercentenary Celebration on March 23-24, 2009.
Bucknell University Press offers several books about Johnson, his works, and his critical reception.
In 2009, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birthday and the 150th anniversary of The Origin of the Species by welcoming manuscripts -- critical essays, essay collections, or monographs -- on Darwin and the humanities and social sciences. Prospective authors and editors are asked to send inquiries and/or proposals to the Director, Greg Clingham, at University Press, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or clingham@bucknell.edu.
