Carol Burdsal was born in Indianapolis, IN and completed her degree in Biology with a minor in Marine Science at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. She earned her PhD in Zoology at Duke University and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, at San Francisco.
Burdsal joined the faculty of the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans in 1995 and in 2006 became Associate Dean in the School of Science and Engineering at that institution. Over her career, Burdsal’s research has focused on how cells interact and/or communicate with one another in embryos to bring about normal patterns of development. Her teaching interests include Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, and Cancer Biology.
After 2 years spent as an administrator at the National Science Foundation, Burdsal joined Bucknell University as Assistant Provost for Research in the summer of 2012.
