The Mirza Award provides $4,000 in support for a summer-long intensive study or a semester abroad experience. For summer study, the awardee will use the funds towards Russian language study either in Russia or in an intensive Russian language program in the US. Recipients must use the award the summer, fall and/or spring immediately following date of the award. Awardees will report on their intensive-study experiences to the Mirza family.

Application Requirements

  • must be a Russian Studies major or plan to declare
  • must apply to the study abroad program or intensive summer study in the US prior to applying for the award
  • should have had at least three courses in the Russian Studies program at Bucknell.

Preference will be given to students who have at least one academic year in residency left at Bucknell before graduation at time of application.

Application Timeline

The deadline for applications is April 15.

Matt Koenigsberg '16

As the first recipient of the Mirza Award for Excellence in Russian, Matt Koenigsberg '16 (Russian and accounting & financial management) completed the Russian major requirements after intensive study of Russian in Moscow.

He studied with American Councils Abroad: Russia (ACTR), in the Business Russian Language and Internship (BRLI) Program, at the International University in Moscow.
