Dear campus colleagues,
As the Fall semester draws to a close, I am delighted to announce that we have successfully concluded the search for the dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Karl Voss, currently serving as interim dean, has accepted our offer. He will transition from "interim dean" to "dean" as of May 1st 2018.
Working with the executive search firm Storbeck Pimentel, the search committee and I read dozens of files, interviewed ten semi-finalists off site, and hosted four finalists for campus visits during the last two weeks. In a strong field, Karl prevailed, having met during his interview with many different constituencies, including staff, students, faculty, and administrators. Karl amply demonstrated his understanding of the rich complexity of Arts & Sciences and of the challenges and opportunities ahead at this formative moment for the college. His intelligence, good humor, and excellent communication skills are also among the assets he brings to the job. With Karl's hire in this position, he joins our team of deans, and I very much look forward to working with them as we pull together across all three colleges to make Bucknell ever better.
My sincere thanks to the outstanding search committee for their hard work, open-mindedness, genuine collaboration, and commitment to making the best possible hire for this key position. They brought great integrity and unflagging energy to this task. Thanks, as well, to Kerin Goecke from the President's Office for her expert handling of the organization and logistics involved in making the search such a success. I also offer my very real appreciation to everyone who attended meetings and presentations even while juggling all the pressures of the end of term.
President John Bravman joins me in announcing this good news. Please take a moment to congratulate Karl when you see him.
Have a wonderful break!
