Wins Third Consecutive Engineers Week Competition
For the third year in a row and the fourth time in seven years, the BME students, faculty and staff won the College of Engineering’s annual Engineers Week competition which ran from February 18th-22nd. Engineers Week is a national event organized to celebrate the many positive contributions engineers make to society. At Bucknell, a week of events is organized to celebrate engineering and to provide both competitive and professional opportunities for the students. Events this year included the annual departmental banner competition, logic relay, cookie eating, trivia competition, dance competition, video competition, and alumni networking events.
In this year’s competitions, the BME students, faculty and staff dedicated many hours to working together to participate in the wide range of events. On their way to victory, they placed or earned points in every event except one and placed first in the trivia, live games, and dance competition. In the winning dance, the hours of practice by the students and faculty were obvious as the group put on a great show. In addition to the first place finishes, the department placed second in the video competition with a thrilling video. At the Friday afternoon alumni networking event, the BME students enjoyed interacting with a range of engineering alumni through discussions about job searching and future career paths. In the community service event for the week, the BME students made over sixty winter hats to be delivered to the Red Cross and Head Start organizations for distribution to local children.
At the Engineers Week Banquet on Friday evening, over 550 engineering students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered to celebrate engineering at Bucknell and to enjoy the camaraderie developed within the College of Engineering throughout the week. In addition to recapping the winners of the week’s events, the banquet showcased videos of the top dance entries and the top departmental videos. The entertaining evening concluded with the announcement of which departments placed in the top three for the week. When the BME students, faculty and staff learned that they had won their third consecutive Engineers Week title, they celebrated the victory and proudly received the coveted Golden Hammer and E-Week Champions Plaque.
