Facilities and Resources
- All Electrical and Computer Engineering laboratories are accessible for undergraduate use 7 days/week, 24 hrs/day whenever they are not being used by scheduled classes.
- Agilent 7000-series oscilloscopes
- Agilent 3 GHz spectrum analyzers and RF signal generators
- Agilent 8.5 GHz vector network analyzer
- Matlab, Mathcad, and other engineering software available on all lab computers
- Circuits/signal processing/communications/image processing
- Digital electronics laboratory, including FPGA and microcontroller development boards and digital logic analyzers
- Electronics/computer-controlled instrumentation systems
- Electric machinery/power electronics
- Electromagnetics/optics laboratory
- Large number of high-performance field programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms for teaching and research in custom, high-speed processing applications and reconfigurable computing
- Linux Computing Cluster – a group of Linux servers with multiple processors and large amounts of memory for running computationally intensive jobs
- Private computer network for teaching and research in networking and security
Common Lab Characteristics
- A basic set of instruments including an oscilloscope, function generator, power supply and either a DVM (Digital Voltmeter) or a DAU (Data Acquisition Unit).
- Those instruments can communicate with a networked computer through an IEEE-488 (GPIB) connection, and can be controlled through several programming environments including C/C++, Visual Basic and LabView.
- Additional higher speed I/O is provided with Keithley Metrabyte cards that can also be controlled from the same programming environments.
- Where possible, the laboratory station includes recessed computers and monitors so that the space can be used as a classroom with laboratory capability. These labs share a mobile projector for use when the space is used more as a classroom.
- All laboratory computers are networks and thus have access to various sets of lessons/courseware that have been developed at BU.
