Bucknell offers generous Arts Merit Scholarships to talented prospective students interested in studying art or art history.

The Samek Art Museum

The Samek Art Museum's schedule features the work of nationally and internationally recognized artists in the form of thematic issue oriented and solo exhibits, and an Annual Student Art Show. Exhibitions are accompanied by lectures, artist talks and publications. The gallery staff members give exhibit tours and speak with student groups and classes.  Contact the Gallery Operations Manager (x73981) to schedule a group visit. The Permanent museum collection features the Kress Collection of Renaissance paintings, the Sordoni collection of Japanese Art, and art in virtually all media, from many points on the globe and historic periods.  Exhibitions will now be supplemented with shows held at the newly opened Downtown Art Gallery.

Art on Campus

Art work is displayed at the galleries, the Art Barn, and throughout campus. The recently renovated Art Building offers a new dark room and digital imaging lab, as well as student critique space.

Visual Resource Center

An instructional and study database of 20,000 digital images is maintained by the Visual Resource Center. Assistance with classroom presentations and other research is also available at the VRC in Room 300 of the Art & Art History Building.

Art Film Series

The Department's Art Film Series shows films selected to enhance courses being taught.

Field Trips

Faculty and students take advantage of Bucknell's proximity to major museums and galleries through regularly scheduled trips and individual travel to New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. The three-day, alumni-supported Rothschild-Johnson Weekend introduces students to art galleries and museums in New York City each Fall.

Majors benefit from an extraordinarily high degree of faculty attention that often continues well after graduation. Our majors are placed in museum and gallery internships, most often at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Craft Center

The Craft Center provides creative opportunities for Bucknell students, faculty, and staff by providing a range of art and craft related programming throughout the academic year.
