First Year Research
Students can get involved in research projects as early as their first year at Bucknell. To prepare students to productively participate in research as early as possible, chemistry students begin with organic chemistry where they explore diverse chemical reactions after a brief review of general chemistry concepts.
Our faculty are dedicated teachers who maintain rigorous research programs in their labs. Their areas of expertise include organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, biophysical, biological, environmental and polymer chemistry.
Their research programs involve undergraduate and masters students.
Each summer, 25 to 30 chemistry students are engaged in research full time for a 10-week period. This provides time for close cooperation with a faculty mentor on the student’s personal project.
