The focus of my research is to advance our understanding of the mechanisms of biological signaling events involving proteins that are involved in human disease. This research involves structure-function studies of proteins and their complexes to elucidate signaling mechanisms - including 3D structural transitions, enzyme kinetics, and membrane association - with the goal of developing inhibitors to modulate these processes. This work is accomplished using X-ray crystallography, multidimensional NMR, and other biophysical techniques and currently includes three major focus areas: 1) membrane associated inositol signaling enzymes, 2) apoptosis mechanisms and regulation, and 3) protease specificity determination related to signaling pathways using single molecule detection.
