Studied in Perugia, Italy

"I spent 7 weeks in Perugia Italy at the Umbra Institute as part of Arcadia University. I was in the intensive Italian program and lived in an apartment with other students in the program. As part of the program I was able to travel around Italy learning about the culture and different dialects of each region. The above photo was taken at the medieval festival in Perugia. My favorite part about being abroad was starting out uncomfortable and leaving feeling like I was part of the city."

Studied in Bologna, Italy

"I wouldn't say I had a conventional study abroad experience I lived in the center of Bologna with an Italian roommate, Luigi. Every morning, we would get coffee and exchange stories. He would tell me about growing up in a small town in Sicily, and I would describe what life was like in America. At the end of the semester he invited me to his graduation where I celebrated with his friends and family. Having an Italian roommate helped me learn about Italian culture from a different perspective. A perspective that can only be observed beyond the classroom. I learned that in order to truly understand Italy-its rich culture, food, and people-I had to experience it for myself. Everyday I would wander through the narrow streets-tasting the food, talking to strangers, going to museums. At the end of my time in Italy, Bologna felt like my second home."

Studied in Florence, Italy

"I studied abroad in Florence, Italy on the Syracuse University program. Other than exploring the beautiful city and all of the art and museums the city has to offer, one of the best parts of the program was that I was able to live in a home stay with an Italian family. I was able to speak Italian with her and learn about the culture and life in Italy through her perspective. She cooked us traditional meals and taught us about a lot of Italian traditions. It was a true immersion experience."

Studied in Lecce, Italy

"I studied for the month of July in the small city of Lecce in southern Italy. I took daily classes in the morning and spent the afternoons exploring local beaches, nearby towns, and interacting with the people of Lecce. The best part of my experience was that Lecce is so small, that nobody spoke much English, so I could really practice my conversational Italian."

Studied in Padua, Italy

"Padua gave me an incredible life experience. I came back with an appreciation for living in the moment, a redefined sense of value, and the unique experience of living completely integrated in a different world. Padua offers a true Italian experience. Forget the clubs of Florence, nothing beats Aperitivi in Padua."
