While students sometimes major in political science for professional or pre-professional reasons, the undergraduate curriculum of the department is primarily structured to serve a liberal arts program leading to the BA degree and to supplement BS degree programs.
Students planning a major concentration in political science should consult the current Catalog for precise details. Special attention is directed to college-wide distribution guidelines and to the statements that precede and follow political science course listings.
All political science courses listed in the catalog may be counted toward the major. (By faculty action, Foundation Seminars are not counted toward a major in any department.) Transfer of courses taken at other accredited institutions (whether foreign or domestic) and certain types of off-campus study normally may be applied toward the major, to a maximum of two courses. To avoid confusion, students wishing to transfer such credits toward the major at Bucknell should consult the department chair and the dean's office. For those planning to study abroad, it is best to consult prior to making a commitment.
