Mission
To
publish high-quality nonfiction works of scholarly interest, with selection
based solely on a manuscript's contribution to the world of ideas. The
Press does not publish fiction, poetry, or textbooks.
Ever-Widening Publication Interests
Continuing its established publishing strengths in Science, Technology,
and Society (STS) and eighteenth-century studies, LUP's widening title
list now includes history and government; Asian Studies, biography,
business and economics, film, literature and literary criticism, and
an increasing number of primary source texts.
How We Work
LUP welcomes for submission any manuscript which is nonfiction,
intellectually substantive, and whose format conforms to The Chicago
Manual of Style, 15th ed. A clearly conceived, sharply focused, thoroughly
researched, logically organized, fully documented, and crisply written
manuscript is the surest route to publication. A current resume should
accompany all submissions.
The approval process is multi-tiered to ensure quality. All manuscripts
must be read by one or more scholarly reviewers. Authors are invited
to respond to reviews and formulate plans for revision. Revised manuscripts
are presented for approval to the Press's editorial board, composed
of Lehigh faculty members. After board approval, manuscripts are sent
to Associated University Presses for production. Ultimate approval rests
with AUP.

A Note About Dissertations
While LUP welcomes revised dissertations, it advises new scholars to
acquire a certain distance from and perspective on their work, for most
often significant revision or reorganization is necessary to transform
a dissertation from research piece to scholarly publication. The one
is written to convince a committee; the other to inform an interested
reader--significantly different audiences.
