As a longtime member of the Stadler Center's staff, it means a great deal to me to assume the Center's directorship during Shara McCallum's year away. It is a dream to be invited to facilitate the programs, residencies, fellowships, and events that have energized and sustained me for more than a decade.
The Stadler Center is thrilled to host all of this year's visiting poets writers, among them Jane Hirshfield, who will join us in October as Sojka Visiting Poet, and Mary Ruefle, who will arrive in late January for a weeklong stay as Poet-in-Residence. As always, our events are free and open to the public.
We are pleased to welcome Monica Sok and David Winter for their first year in the Stadler Fellowship, and poets Jessica Franck and Raena Shirali for the Philip Roth Residence in Creative Writing in fall and spring, respectively. We will be accepting application for the 2017-18 Roth Residence this winter, but for the Stadler Fellowships only in the event of a vacancy.
In June 2017, the Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets will host visiting poets Ilya Kaminsky, Sally Wen Mao, and Kyle Dargan, all of whom are alumni of the Seminar. The 2017 Seminar staff will also include Deirdre O'Connor, Monica Sok, and David Winter. I would like to thank GC Waldrep for his years of generous involvement as director of the Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets. As a 2001 alumna of the Seminar, I am thrilled to have assumed the directorship beginning in 2016. For information about applying to our all-expenses-paid, three-week summer program, undergraduate poets should visit our website. Applications are due in January.
For contributions that help make our programming possible, we are grateful to the Stadler family, to Gary and Sandra Sojka, and to the many individuals whose generosity each year allows us to promote contemporary poetry and support writers at various stages of development. If you wish to foster the work of the Stadler Center for Poetry, please consider making a gift—no amount is too small.
Thank you for your lively support of our reading series, for spreading word of our fellowship and residency opportunities, and for your abiding belief in the value of poetry and the literary arts.
