Bucknell organizes several alternative break trips for students and staff to serve community needs in domestic and foreign settings. If you are interested in traveling with a group, please read the descriptions below and contact the appropriate individuals.

Bucknell Brigade to Nicaragua

The Bucknell Brigade is a group of University students, faculty, and staff members who are committed to aiding the poverty-stricken people of Nicaragua, especially those in the community of Nueva Vida. Each year two delegations are sent to Nicaragua, one in January and one in March. If you are interested in traveling on this trip, contact Kyle Bray or Janice Butler. In addition, there are many ways that you can get involved on campus before and after traveling.

Katrina Recovery Team

Since 2006 Bucknell volunteers have traveled to the Gulf Coast region twice a year to help those who lost so much to the destructive power of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  The group travels in January and May and partners with the St. Bernard Project. If you are interested in participating in this unique service experience, contact Kyle Bray or Janice Butler.

Destination Freedom

Bucknell students and staff will have the opportunity to explore the ongoing legacy of the Civil Rights Movement by visiting historic sites, museums, and archives, as well as by talking with residents of the South who participated in key events, and to consider current conditions of inequality by serving the needy in Memphis, or working to preserve important parts of our heritage. If you are interested, contact Multicultural Student Services.

B.A.C.E.S. Bucknell

Bucknell Advancing Communities: Educating and Serving (B.A.C.E.S) is planning a service spring break trip to the Dominican Republic to help impoverished people. Work on a school, in a health clinic, and at a rural farm have been part of previous trips. If you are interested in traveling, contact Trace Coates in the Office of Global & Off-campus Education.

.
Habitat for Humanity

The Bucknell Chapter of Habitat for Humanity selects a different location to travel to each year based on student interest. If you are interested in getting involved on campus or traveling with the group over spring break please contact chapter representative Kristina Mammano.
