Kimberly H. Councill joined Bucknell’s faculty in August 2012. She  supervises student teachers and teaches courses in K-12 General Music Methods, Music for the Exceptional Child, Introduction to Teaching Music and Introduction to Music.

Prior to teaching at Bucknell, Dr. Councill served as the Coordinator of Music Education at Susquehanna University, an Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a band, choir, and general music teacher in the public schools of North Carolina, and a private and group music lesson instructor at The Ohio State School for the Blind.

Currently, Dr. Councill serves as a volunteer music teacher for the kindergarten students in the Selinsgrove Public Schools, a musical outreach project that enables music education majors to gain “real world” teaching experience early in their college career, and she serves as Director of the Central Oak Heights Middle School Music Camp in Milton, PA. Dr. Councill has also created a “MUSE” (Musical Understanding in Special Education), a musical outreach program for special needs children in the Selinsgrove and Mifflinburg Public Schools, and she founded the Central Oak Heights Elementary School Music Camp.

Her research, which has been presented at state, regional, national, and international conferences and published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, PMEA News, North Carolina Music Educator, the Florida Music Educator's Journal, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. is focused on music teacher recruitment and retention and effective student teaching seminars. Dr. Councill's other research work involves inclusion of special learners into the public school music classroom and undergraduate music education curriculum design.

Dr. Councill is active in numerous state and national music education organizations, serves as the Eastern Division Chair for the Society of Music Teacher Education,, and has conducted numerous band and choral festivals across the state. She has been awarded numerous awards for teaching excellence and service to students.February 2014: Invited Researcher
