The Counseling & Student Development Center is a place for students to discuss personal, academic or vocational concerns.

Counselors are professionally trained and licensed. Services are available to students at no cost. Psychologists, counselors and social workers are bound both ethically and legally to honor confidentiality except in situations where there exists the potential of harm to yourself or others or there is evidence of current child abuse. We are committed to providing psychological services that are sensitive to each individual and to differences based on gender, race, culture, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, and spiritual belief.

Individual Counseling

Your first contact with the Counseling & Student Development Center will typically be a screening interview (intake) in which you and the counselor make decisions about the type of help that would best meet your needs. || Learn more

Group Counseling/Support Groups

Group counseling gathers approximately 5 - 10 students to meet each weekly.  These sessions are led by Counseling & Student Development Center staff. || Learn more

Psychiatric Consultation

Students who wish to meet with our consulting psychiatrist must first meet with a staff counselor to discuss their concerns and to determine if a referral for psychiatric consultation is appropriate. On-going psychiatric treatment is only provided for students who are also working with a counselor at the Counseling & Student Development Center.

Walk-In Hours

The Counseling & Student Development Center offers services on a scheduled appointment basis. For students who feel unable to wait for a regularly scheduled appointment, brief, one-time walk-in consultation appointments are also available week days on a first-come first-served basis from 3 to 4 p.m. These 15-30 minute appointments give the counselor an opportunity to make contact with a student and to determine how to best be of assistance.

Crisis Services

The Counseling & Student Development Center is one of several emergency support systems available in the case of a crisis. || Learn more

Alcohol and Other Drugs Services

The Counseling & Student Development Center offers assessment geared towards helping students explore their patterns of alcohol and drug use. This assessment is designed to help students critically examine their patterns of alcohol/drug use in a judgment-free environment. As part of this assessment, students complete the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) program, which is evidence-based and has been shown to be an effective intervention. Some students schedule these appointments to fulfill a requirement stemming from an alcohol or drug violation whereas others choose to participate hoping to gain a more intimate understanding of their relationship with substances.

Psychological Assessment

When recommended by the counselor, various psychological assessments are available for students who are actively engaged in counseling.

Outreach Programming

Counseling & Student Development Center staff are available to present lectures, workshops, and programs to your group, organization, or class. || Learn more
