Bucknell Brigade 5K Fall 2014 9/20/2014 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

9:00 AM to 11:00 AM - Off Campus Hufnagle Park Bucknell University's Bucknell Brigade will host its fifth annual Making it to Managua 5K race Saturday, Sept. 20. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg; the race begins at 10 a.m. Registration fees are $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the race. Participants will receive a water bottle with registration – bottles will be handed out on race day. To register, link to the registration form on the Brigade Facebook page at www.facebook.com/managua5k. 'Participants interested in supporting the Brigade who are unable to be in Lewisburg on Sept. 20 can sign up for the at-home option,' said Bucknell senior Jenna Weaver, the student coordinator of the race. 'Participants can pledge to run, walk, elliptical or bike 3.1 miles to help us make the distance.' All proceeds benefit the free health clinic in Managua, Nicaragua, that the Bucknell Brigade helps to fund. Formed in 1999 in response to the devastation of Hurricane Mitch, the Bucknell Brigade works with the resettlement community of Nueva Vida outside the capital city of Managua. Volunteers involved in this student-initiated service-learning project help raise money for the clinic. Delegations of students and staff bring donated medicines and inventory supplies in the pharmacy, and assist with manual labor on projects identified by the Center for Development in Central America, the host agency, while learning about micro-enterprise initiatives, grass roots development, and the history and culture of Nicaragua.
