Undergraduate Research Guarantee!

The Department of Chemical Engineering guarantees an undergraduate research experience to every student before graduating, and 70-90% of recent graduating classes have done research.

We also send students (and fund them!) to national research conferences at a rate exceeding all other ChemE programs nationally.

Learn to design and analyze products and systems that transform raw materials chemically, physically or biologically into materials that improve products and enhance lives.

You will work closely with faculty in the classroom and on independent research projects, and get plenty of hands-on experience that links theory and practice, always keeping the public and the environment in mind. Upper-level design students work on real-world projects. The curriculum also offers study-abroad opportunities, preparation for graduate study, specialized technical tracks or premedical training.

Did You Know?

Each year, about 25 percent of our junior year engineering students study overseas at such locations as the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.

A number of graduating seniors in chemical engineering pursue advanced degrees. In addition to the master's degree program which students may enter once their bachelor's degree is completed, we offer an accelerated 3-2 program leading to both a bachelor of science and a master of science.

More than 75% of our students work with faculty on independent study research projects at Bucknell.

Students can tailor the curriculum to their interests, which may include study abroad, pre-medical training, preparation for graduate study or pursuit of a concentration within the major (biological, environmental, materials, process).

Average number of majors per class year: 25-30
