Parts of the storm water system were designed to be visible educational features to allow students to learn about the path of water and the impact of the built environment.
The system begins at the green roof which is visible from the third floor lounge and the roof top patio. A scupper in the wall outside of the event lounge allows water that has drained from the roof to drain into a series of channels in a wall that parallels the sidewalk. The water then reaches a yard drain where it is piped underground to nearby rain gardens. The rain gardens filter pollutants from the water and reduce the rate at which the water is introduced back into the natural aquifer recharge cycle.
