This is my Steampunk-styled "Doctor Who" TARDIS coat. "Doctor Who" has been a cult icon for 50 years (I made this to go see the 50th anniversary special in theaters), and steampunk fashion is an embodiment of history re-imagined. It seemed fitting to combine the two for a unique — and very cool — statement piece.
I've been sewing since I was in grade school. My interest in historical fashion started in high school, and I've done other more traditional pieces around that (mostly Renaissance and Regency eras). I remember watching old reruns of classic "Who" on PBS as a kid, and I've loved the new revival of the series. Lots of people have done the "TARDIS dress" idea, which inspired me to try my own interpretation.
I always have a pile of projects I want to tackle. I also knit and crochet, so I tend to mix up project types to keep from getting too bored with any one thing. I'm considering starting an Etsy shop after I graduate to give me an outlet to market some of my nerd-craft ideas.
