In MIDE, you really get a lot of time to showcase your work to other people in the class, and my classmates have truly inspired me. I know that I want to work with Bucknellians for the rest of my life.
"I came into Bucknell as an undecided major. I have always liked business, so I applied to the School [now College] of Management during my freshman year, looked up all the majors, and knew that markets, innovation & design (MIDE) was perfect for me — the integrated, creative approach to a traditional management course was exactly what I wanted.
"My favorite part of the college is the way all the classes are structured. The concepts are introduced in the very beginning and build upon each other as you go through the curriculum. Management 101 was my favorite class of all time. My company developed and sold street signs. What I learned from that class was incredible, and I would not trade that experience for anything.
"What I really like about the MIDE major is that you are with other people who genuinely share that interest. You really get a lot of time to showcase your work to other people in the class, and my classmates have truly inspired me. The help of other students and my classes combined got me to where I am now. I always think of how successful Bucknell alumni are, and I know that I want to work with Bucknellians for the rest of my life.
"I had the opportunity to practice these skills outside the classroom when I started a comedy club my freshman year. After our first show drew only 50 attendees, it was incredible to see an audience of more than 500 people only five shows later. I credit my management classes — they really helped me succeed by teaching me to understand marketing and finance, and how to think like an entrepreneur. The MIDE courses have actually helped me with writing jokes — the concept of the design cycle is very applicable as I write my shows.
"Right now, I'm incorporating everything I have learned into running a business. I started an apparel line and am working with students on the design and printing for t-shirts. It is definitely a goal of mine to someday be a successful alum who comes back to campus to share my experience with students."
