Pennsylvania Covered Bridges

Digital Image Collection

Introduction to the Collection

The Pennsylvania Covered Bridges collection contains over three-hundred images of covered bridges from across Pennsylvania, though most bridges are from the Susquehanna Valley region. Original photographs were taken by Dr. Nelson F. Davis, Professor of Biology at Bucknell from 1898.

This project was one of our pilot projects as Bucknell began working to build digital collections. The collection was built to make publicly available some of Bucknell's unique materials.

For more detailed information and historical background, please visit the Special Collections / University Archives website. For specific use or research questions, please contact Special Collections/University Archives. (

Metadata Schema

The metadata schema used was loosely based on a combination of Dublin Core and locally-created databases

This collection is restricted to computers on campus or users logged in to the Bucknell network. Upon request, a subset of images from the collection can be made available. Contact Brody Selleck( for details.
