SBDC logoThe Bucknell University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will mark the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development's (DCED) Jobs1st 'On the Road' tour by presenting two educational programs on Wednesday, April 9.

A "First Step Pre-business Workshop" will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the SBDC Business Education Center on the third floor of the DeWitt Building at 416 Market St. in Lewisburg. This workshop is offered at no charge through sponsorship of Mifflinburg Bank & Trust.

Pre-registration is required as seating is limited. To register online, visit www.bucknell.edu/sbdc and click on "EVENTS"; call the SBDC at 570-577-1249; or email SBDC@bucknell.edu

The workshop will help aspiring entrepreneurs begin the process of successful business ownership and includes topics such as evaluating business ideas, developing a business plan, and exploring financing options. The program is designed to help people who have always dreamed of starting their own business but who never know where to start. It is also appropriate for individuals seeking a refresher on business formation and startup topics.

Maureen Hauck, the SBDC's Assistant Director for Business Consulting, will lead the workshop. With the SBDC since 2000, Hauck has more than 20 years of business experience including retail management, marketing, advertising, sales, and personnel management. In the past year she has presented this program to more than 150 attendees at sites throughout central Pennsylvania.

"Last year 32 entrepreneurs took the plunge and started their own business with the help of the SBDC," said Center Director Steven Stumbris, "and so far this year 40 more aspiring business owners have joined us at programs like this to take the first step toward joining their ranks."

Also on April 9, the SBDC will present "Fundamentals of Social Media" from 8 to 11 a.m. at Vince's Pizza, Beaver Springs, sponsored by the Middlecreek Valley Chamber of Commerce. The program fee for "Fundamentals of Social Media" is $35.

Blogger, consultant, gardener and social media evangelist Daniel Gasteiger will provide an overview of how individuals can promote their small businesses effectively using social media tools such as Facebook, Google +, Twitter, Pinterest, and more.
