Bucknell University will host nearly 4,000 visitors participating in about 30 conferences beginning June 6 through Aug. 3.
Bucknell-affiliated programs Bucknell's annual Reunion Weekend will be held May 29 to June 1 with thousands of alumni and families returning to campus for the weekend activities. The May 31 celebrations will close with an alumni party complete with fireworks for all in the vicinity to enjoy (weather permitting).
The University's alumni summer guest program, which offers accommodations for alumni families in Bucknell West, is scheduled for June 6 through July 26.
The summer session will be held June 9 to July 18 for enrolled students as well as students participating in the Bucknell Community College programs. Other Bucknell-sponsored conferences include Engineering Camp June 22-27; College Admissions Workshop June 26-27; Admissions: Shaping Your World, July 6-9; Technology Student Association July 6-8; International Institute for Sustained Dialogue (IISD) DBA Sustained Dialogue Institute (SDI) July 21-26; E-3 Engineering workshop July 23-25; and a MERCURY undergraduate chemistry conference July 24-26. In addition, students will participate in summer research programs.
Students, faculty and visiting poets participating in the 30th annual Seminar for Younger Poets will read from their works during the seminar held June 8-30. Visiting poets Carl Phillips and Chase Twichell will join Acting Director K.A. Hays, Associate Director Deirdre O'Connor, and Stadler Fellows Carolina Ebeid and Justin Boening.
Readings will be held in the Stadler Center for Poetry in Bucknell Hall. All readings are free and open to the public and begin at 7 p.m. Hays, O'Connor, Ebeid and Boening will give an opening reading on June 10. Phillips will read with five of the Seminar Fellows on June 12. Twichell will read with six of the Seminar Fellows on June 19. The final reading with all Fellows is scheduled for June 29.
Visiting programs Visiting organizationsinclude: Pennsylvania Kiwanis June 13-15; Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Youth Conference June 16-20; Schools of Christian Mission July 10-13; PACAC July 14-16; and Apostles of Jesus July 28-Aug. 1.
Sports camps include: boys basketball team day June 7-8; girls elite basketball prospects June 14-15; girls basketball skills June 15-18; boys basketball college prospects June 20-21; Bison football shoot-out June 21; boys basketball individuals June 22-25; girls lacrosse June 24-26; adult field hockey day tournament June 28-29; girls basketball team shoot-out June 29; boys lacrosse July 1-3; wrestling July 6-9; boys soccer July 6-9 and July 11-14; water polo July 8-12; cross country/track July 13-17; field hockey July 21-24; boys baseball July 23-26; and women's soccer clinic Aug. 2-3.
The Bison Long Course will be held May 12-July 26; the Mid-Atlantic Long Course Championships are scheduled for July 16-19. The WSY Summer Long Course Classic will be held June 12-15; and Lewisburg Gators June 2-July 25.
Football recruiting camps will be held June 22 and July 26. A wrestling dual meet and tournament is scheduled for July 12. A PIAA football officials clinic will be held July 20.
The summer conferences program at Bucknell University originated as a way to provide year-round employment to university staffs and offers a wide range of facilities in an educational and professional atmosphere.
