Lewisburg, Pa. — The following statement was released by President John Bravman on Sept. 8, 2011, at 7 a.m.:
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students -
The National Weather Service is predicting that the Susquehanna River will crest at nearly 30 feet, probably late this afternoon or early evening. Access to and from campus is being rapidly compromised for many of our colleagues, and 500-1,000 students are likely to be impacted, perhaps for days. Lewisburg and other school districts are closed so the children of many of our colleagues will be at home.
Since our primary concern is for health and safety, the prudent course of action is to cancel classes today, Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, especially since the flooding may worsen. We are fortunate that we have ample warning to plan for this situation.
Normal administrative and support functioning will continue as much as possible; please exercise caution in your commute, and let your supervisor know if it is not possible or advisable for you to travel to campus.
Bostwick Cafeteria and The Bison in the ELC will remain open.
There will be further announcements during the day.
Many thanks for your help,
