LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Bucknell Institute for Lifelong Learning will host the talk, "Alexander the Great and the Seven Wonders of the World," Tuesday, April 10, with Janet Jones, Presidential Professor of Classics at Bucknell.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the noon Lunch & Learn program, which is free and open to the public.
Jones is a classical archaeologist who offers a wide range of courses on the cultural landscape and material culture of the ancient world. Her special areas of interest include classical and Near Eastern architecture and city planning, ancient technology, and preindustrial environmental history.
She is an active field archaeologist who has worked in Jordan at Aqaba, in Tunisia at Carthage and in Turkey at Gordion and Gritille Hoyuk. Her laboratory on the campus at Bucknell holds the largest collection of Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic glass from excavated contexts in the United States; students regularly work with her on the study of this material.
Lunch & Learn is a series of informal lunch programs held in partnership with Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village. Events are held in The Village Common on Tressler Boulevard in Lewisburg.
Participants may bring their own lunch or purchase lunch (creamy tomato soup, BLT with mayonnaise) for $5; beverages and a light dessert will be provided.
