SBDC workshop: 'Professional Etiquette'

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Bucknell University will offer the workshop, "Professional Etiquette: Communication, Dining and Dress Skills for Success," Tuesday, May 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room of the Elaine Langone Center at Bucknell.
Speakers and their topics include:
- Consultant David Burns, who will discuss professional communication skills such as personal attributes of integrity, self-motivation and appearance; workplace know-how including task management and handling challenges; and communication skills such as listening well, trigger words and dealing with unpleasant people. A business trainer, speaker and consultant to organizations ranging in size from micro-businesses to Fortune 500 firms, Burns has a degree in education, advanced degrees in multiple martial arts and hands-on experience from running his own business since 1980.
- Kate Stilin, Bucknell catering director, will answer questions about professional dining etiquette, including how to use utensils and napkins properly, how to courteously pass items around the table, and other dining etiquette tips.
- Judy Spiegel, co-owner of J. Kleinbauer Co. in Selinsgrove, will focus on professional career and casual dressing for men and women, with models demonstrating professional attire. Spiegel has experience in various financial positions in the insurance, healthcare, and banking industries in New England and in the Susquehanna Valley.
The workshop is offered during National Small Business Week, May 20 - 26.
The cost to attend is $40 per person, and includes lunch and a one-year subscription to Inc. magazine. Registration is required as seating is limited.
