John Updike was the second recipient of the Janet Weis Fellow in Contemporary Letters. Born in Shillington, Pennsylvania, Mr. Updike is the critically acclaimed author of numerous novels, short stories, poems and essays. Over the years he has earned many awards and prizes, including the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and The National Book Critics Circle Award.
Mr. Updike received the award and gave a lecture at Bucknell on November 11, 2003.
