Campus Jewish Life, part of Bucknell's Office of Chaplains and Religious Life, and the student-run Hillel enable students to experience and explore the many facets of Jewish life and thought. Together, they offer programs that affirm Jewish heritage and contribute to the growth and education of the Bucknell community.
Campus Jewish Life encourages sharing familiar rituals and traditions while seeking new ideas that challenge students and provide opportunities for personal and communal growth. It provides religious services and, with Hillel, plans and promotes a variety of social and educational programs. These include dinners, trips off campus, movies, tzedekah projects and interactive learning programs facilitated by both the rabbi and faculty members.
Rabbi Rebecca Joseph, our Chaplain for the Jewish Community, leads Bucknell's Jewish community and works with a student board and a faculty/staff advisory committee to provide leadership in Jewish religious life, Jewish culture, informal education, community service opportunities and other activities to both Jewish and non-Jewish members of the Bucknell community.
The Berelson Center for Jewish Life, 632 St. George St., is home to Bucknell's Jewish community. Students can study, relax, do laundry and cook meals in one of the Center's two kitchens (kosher and non-kosher).
Weekly Kabbalat Shabbat services, followed by Shabbat dinner, are held in the Berelson Center chapel.
