Endowed Scholarships

graduation

An important indicator of a university's success is its ability to attract and educate the best students, regardless of their families' financial ability.

Half of Bucknell students rely on institutional financial aid in order to attend the university. In fact, 65 percent of all undergraduates fund a portion or all of their tuition and fees through scholarships, grants, and loans.

Named for a donor or a loved one, endowed scholarships grow in value each year, and provide a perpetual source of aid for students as well as a permanent honor to the individual named in the fund. These gifts, which can be designated for need-based or recruitment, forever have a positive impact on Bucknell and its students. Scholarship gifts can be used to provide need-based grants to students, or may be established as grants to aid recruitment. All endowed scholarships are permanent, and have a lasting positive impact on Bucknell students.

The university currently has 482 active endowed scholarships, nearly doubling the 242 endowed scholarships available 10 years ago. In fact, the infusion of $76.4 million into our endowment for scholarship funds in our last campaign allowed the university to increase the proportion of students receiving university grants from 35 to 50 per cent.

A minimum gift of $75,000 is required to activate an unrestricted, named endowed scholarship. Higher minimums are required for scholarships with a single preference or for recruitment.
