Endowed Faculty Chairs
 | Daniel P. Cavanagh The William C. and Gertrude B. Emmitt Memorial Chair in Biomedical Engineering Director, Biomedical Engineering Program Assistant Professor of Biomedical & Chemical Engineering Ph.D. Northwestern University Interests : Biomedical Fluid Dynamics, Therapeutic Uses of Surfactants, Intravascular Gas Embolism | The endowed faculty chair symbolizes the highest stature of excellence in the academic world. For the university, it is a key in both attracting and retaining exceptional faculty. For the professor, it is recognition and reward for achieving an extraordinary degree of proficiency in teaching and scholarship. An endowed chair can underwrite an eminent scholar's salary, and if sufficiently generous, also support travel, research, course development, and special curricular initiatives. At the same time, a chair enables the university to attract new competency and broader expertise to the faculty, while addressing new academic frontiers. Bucknell has 14 endowed and named chairs. The cost for an endowed chair ranges between $2-3 million, depending on the department.
