Merit Awards
Bucknell has lost some incredibly gifted students to other schools. These were young men and women with impeccable credentials and potential who wanted to attend Bucknell. Instead, they chose another, often less-prestigious college or university. Why? Because that other college offered a merit award that proved to be the deciding factor, providing a distinct gesture that this student was highly coveted by that university.
To be welcomed and rewarded for excellence is a powerful recruiting tool.
Merit scholarships are intended to attract students with extraordinary academic potential or talent, thereby providing a window to further enhance and enrich the makeup of the university’s student body.
To maintain recent gains achieved on the admissions front and to thoughtfully build for the future, Bucknell will utilize only $644,000 of its $8.5 million financial aid budget for merit awards. Most of that pool of money will be used for enhanced need scholarships; no more than 13 students will receive no-need awards.
Donors have the opportunity to name merit scholarships. All Bucknell scholarships have an academic requirement and support the institution’s commitment to the providing the best undergraduate learning experience to the best and brightest students available.
