The study and practice of theatre gives liberal arts students a deeper understanding of themselves and their world. They can awaken and discover their own creative impulses and imagination by inhabiting the poetic forms of other cultures, and they can develop an understanding of multiple perspectives by exploring the unique visions of theatre artists. The study and practice of theatre develops expertise in creative and collaborative problem solving, in visual and kinetic literacy, and in oral communication.

Courses Offered in Dance

Current Course Offerings in Dance

The six-course program for an academic minor in dance is designed to provide a broad foundation of technical andtheoretical experience for the development of disciplined and sensitive artists. The minor acknowledges ongoing studio training as paramount to the field of study, offering daily classes in major dance styles as well as experience in repertory and performance. Theoretical underpinnings are reinforced through courses in dance history, composition, and improvisation. Repertory classes and residencies provide opportunities to learn classic reconstructions, vital new choreographies, and ethnic forms. Participation in dance performance groups is expected and related course work in theatre, music, and art is encouraged. For more information, contact Director of Dance Er-Dong Hu.
