Fraternity and Sorority Life
Admitted Students Bucknell's fraternity and sorority community is comprised of 20 social Greek-letter organizations – 6 sororities and 14 fraternities – and is in its 153rd academic year.
Students are not eligible for membership in a fraternity or a sorority until the first semester of their sophomore year. During your first year at Bucknell, you will have an opportunity to participate in events and activities sponsored by the fraternity and sorority system. In addition, you’ll be invited to attend many of the major educational and informational programs hosted across campus. Bucknell fraternities and sororities sponsor programs on topics such as leadership development, campus involvement, community service, diversity, and alcohol and drug education. You also will be invited to be a part of our annual Greek Week celebration during the spring semester. In addition, there are opportunities for you to attend social events sponsored by many of our organizations. The fraternity and sorority community continues to focus its efforts on community service, philanthropy, and educational programming. Last year, the Greek community donated more than 23,000 hours of service and raised more than $135,000 for philanthropic donation. The fall semester ended with the ninth annual system-wide philanthropy project – the Million Penny Project – where $10,000 was raised for the Blue Butterfly Fund.
Our fraternities and sororities have won numerous regional and national awards and we are one of the few systems in the nation to develop policies and procedures that govern issues like alcohol use and abuse, sexual assault, diversity, tolerance, hazing, and behaviors that are considered high risk. But while we have policies that we enforce, we also have a great time. Is fraternity and sorority membership for everybody? Maybe not. But we want you to know that whether or not you choose to become involved in fraternity and sorority life at Bucknell, you can still have a positive experience. We are proudly Bucknellians first.
On behalf of the fraternity and sorority community at Bucknell, welcome.
