College of Engineering

Admitted Students

The College of Engineering congratulates this year's talented class of accepted students.

Offering engineering majors in seven disciplines and a minor in biomedical engineering, Bucknell's engineering program is focused on the undergraduate experience. It is characterized by accomplished faculty who are committed to teaching excellence. Your education and personal development are their top priority. You can expect frequent and close contact with faculty in classroom, lab, and advisory settings. Many students pursue undergraduate research and the opportunity to work with faculty individually on projects in many areas.

In concert with engineering studies, students take advantage of the rich learning environment of our liberal arts academic community. With many opportunities for broad intellectual and personal development, Bucknell's many resources include interactive and stimulating liberal arts courses, active clubs and student groups, cultural activities and seminars, and study abroad.

From the introductory Exploring Engineering class, a common first-semester experience for engineering students, through advanced senior-level design courses, the curricula provide a strong and integrated technical foundation and develop expertise and confidence in areas beyond the textbook. Strong hands-on lab and computing components are fundamental to a Bucknell engineering education, as are teamwork and communication skills, professionalism and ethical decision-making, and creative problem solving.

These are among the elements which have been instrumental in allowing Bucknell engineering graduates to quickly demonstrate their abilities to succeed and be leaders in many walks of life, including industry, academia, and government.

We are pleased to announce the availability of a new degree program combining engineering and management to a limited number of students who enroll in the College of Engineering at Bucknell. Upon acceptance into this program, students can earn a bachelor of science in an engineering discipline in combination with a bachelor of management for engineers offered by the management department in the College of Arts and Sciences.

This dual degree program is the newest addition to the long standing five-year program combining liberal arts and engineering in which students can choose to complete a bachelor of science in engineering and a bachelor of arts. Students interested in more information in these five-year programs are encouraged to contact the office of the dean of engineering after arriving on campus in the fall.

The Bucknell experience presents the "big picture" of engineering. From the introductory Exploring Engineering class (part of a common first-semester experience for engineering students) through advanced senior-level design courses, the curricula provide a strong and integrated technical foundation, while at the same time actively developing expertise and confidence in areas beyond the textbook. Strong hands-on laboratory and computing components are fundamental to a Bucknell engineering education, as are teamwork and communication skills, professionalism and ethical decision-making, and creative problem solving.

We feel that these are among the elements which have been instrumental in allowing Bucknell engineering graduates to quickly demonstrate their abilities to succeed and be leaders in many walks of life, including industry, academia, and government. Our faculty and students are excited about our engineering program and the opportunities it affords, and we hope that you will choose to join us this fall.
