Campus Activities & Programs
Admitted StudentsThe Office of Campus Activities and Programs (CAP) helps to promote the personal growth of each individual student through a wide array of co-curricular activities. This diverse programming seeks to enhance social skills, leadership opportunities and campus unity. We encourage all students to stop by our office in room 306 of the Elaine Langone Center to see how you can get involved. Weekend Events
ACE (Activities & Campus Events) and the CAP Center offer a wide variety of programs and social activities every weekend. In addition to large-scale functions such as hypnotists, bands, casino nights, BU After Dark, and Mr. Bucknell, ACE also provides small programs, such as coffeehouse performers, comedians, movies and Bucknell's own version of popular game shows. All students who are members of ACE select and schedule these weekend events. Trips/Shuttles An off-campus "getaway" is often a stress reliever for students. The CAP Center and ACE schedule numerous day trips each semester to nearby cities, including New York, Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia. We also offer weekend shuttles to local malls and Wal-Mart. Clubs and Organizations When you arrive on campus, we encourage you to get involved. There are more than 150 student organizations to participate in. If you don't see something you want, start a new club. Each year, the Bucknell Student Government allocates more than $450,000 to clubs and organizations. These student-run groups complement academic life and allow you to meet students with similar interests. Each August, the CAP Center sponsors "Activities Unlimited," an evening in which each organization highlights and showcases what it is that makes their group unique. It is a great opportunity for first-year students to see all that is available. Concerts at Bucknell The CAP Center is also home to the Concert Committee, a group of 12 enthusiastic students identify and sponsor major concerts at Bucknell. The committee attempts to bring two major concerts to Bucknell each year. In recent years, we have enjoyed Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Foo Fighters, Rusted Root, Counting Crows, Shaggy, LIVE, and most recently, Kanye West, Ben Folds, The Ataris, Jason Mraz, O.A.R., Jurassic Five, 311, and the Goo Goo Dolls. These concerts provide a great opportunity for the campus to unite for a fun evening. The Campus Nightclub - Uptown
The exciting on-campus nightclub, located in the basement of Swartz Hall, provides entertainment for the whole campus community. There is a little bit of something for everyone. Uptown has state-of-the-art sound and lights and provides students with a place to dance, socialize, and munch on some late-night snacks. Open every Friday and Saturday from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., Uptown has featured popular bands like Maroon 5, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Phantom Planet, SR 71, Simple Plan, Dispatch, O.A.R., The Clarks, Howie Day, Fall Out Boy, The Ataris, and Plain White T's. Uptown is also available for rental by recognized student organizations Mondays through Thursdays. The Craft Center The Craft Center, a fabulous on-campus studio serving all of your creative needs, is also run by the CAP Center. Whether you are working on a creative project for a class or just feel the need to express your creativity with a group of friends or by yourself, the Craft Center has all of the tools, materials, and supplies that you will need, in a wide variety of mediums. The center is open seven days a week for individual and group use. It also has evening classes and workshops in clay, stained glass, sewing, and photography for those who would like to try something new. Student Lectureship Committee The Bucknell University Student Lectureship Committee sponsors high-quality engaging speakers to come to Bucknell and provides the Bucknell community access to speakers concerning a wide array of topics. As a sub-committee of the Bucknell Student Government, this student-run lectureship organization is comprised of an elite group of selected students. This committee is truly a proactive and collaborative group. Recent speakers include Mitch Albom, James Earl Jones, Chris Mathews, and Bill Nye. Building on Foundations Building on Foundations (BOF) is a pre-orientation program for incoming first-year students. This incredible opportunity focuses on team-building, community service and leadership skills. Numerous student leaders emerge from the BOF program year after year and lasting friendships are formed while offering a "jump start" to your orientation to Bucknell. More information about BOF will be mailed out in early June. L'Agenda A classic yearbook, the L'Agenda documents the lives of Bucknell students, faculty and staff, covering everything from football games and homecoming to fraternity and sorority events and classroom activities. The L'Agenda produces a book that will not only be useful in a year but useful in 20 to 30 years to help people know what life at Bucknell University was like.
