Faculty and Staff Resources

As students begin to research and apply for off-campus/ study abroad, academic advisers and faculty members play a pivotal role in the approval process.  Students applying for off-campus/study abroad must complete an advisor approval form confirming each student can complete their major course of study and a faculty recommendation supporting their application for off-campus/study abroad.

Academic Advisers:

Reminder: BEFORE ADVISING ANY STUDENT FOR OFF-CAMPUS/ STUDY ABROAD PLEASE BE SURE THEY HAVE COMPLETED THE INTENT TO STUDY ABROAD FORM.

Academic Advisor Mailing
Application Timeline and Flow Chart for Advisors

Students interested in off-campus/study abroad are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor before completing the Off-Campus/Study Abroad Application to begin planning for a semester abroad.  However, once students submit the preliminary application they are required to meet with their academic advisor to complete the Academic Advisor Approval Form.  The request for the form will be automatically sent via email to the academic advisers once the student completes their initial application.

Advisers should discuss the students plans for Off-Campus/Study Abroad and how their plans will coincide with their overall course of study. Advisers should ensure that the student can fulfill all university and major requirements to graduate in 8 semesters.  The Office of International Education will not approve a students application for off-campus/study abroad without approval from the studetns academic advisor(s).

Faculty Recommendations:

Students interested in off-campus/study abroad are required to submit a faculty recommendation(s) to complete their Application for Approval for Off-Campus/Study Abroad.  When filling out the approval application, students will select a professor they have had in a course for at least one semester to complete the faculty recommendation.  Once students submit their preliminary application a recommendation request will be generated and sent via email to the selected faculty member with a link to the electronic recommendation form.

When completing the recommendation form, faculty should assess how they are acquainted with the student, the students academic performance, and if they feel the student would succeed academically in a program off-campus/abroad.
