Fitness Class Descriptions
Looking for a particular type of class? Are you curious about what each class entails? Check out our Group Fitness descriptions and see if there is a class that's right for you! Every instructor is qualified to adjust the class format to suit the needs of beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants. We welcome ALL LEVELS of group fitness enthusiasts to attend!
Classes take place in the Group Fitness Studio located on the second floor of the Gerhard Fieldhouse with the exception of ZUMBA, which takes place in Sojka Pavilion.
ABC's – Arms, Butt & Core are what will be worked in this class. All exercise will tone and define these areas. All levels welcome.
AB BLAST – 30 minutes all abs all the time.
BOOTY BARRE – A sexy, energetic, fun workout that fuses fitness techniques from Dance, Pilates, and Yoga that will tone, define and chisel the whole body. All levels welcome.
CYCLE CIRCUIT CHALLENGE – The cycling challenge who've been waiting for. This 50 minute class will combine speed and hill intervals with body weight resistance training exercises. Be ready to burn mega calories!
H.I.T – A step interval class utilizing a variety of combinations. Be prepared to get your heart rate elevated!
KICKBOXING – This is a non-contact kickboxing class utilizing basic kicks and punches on a heavy bag. Designed as a total body workout, this class will make you sweat!
PILATES – Work your core like never before! Power Pilates uses basic Pilates exercises to help you strengthen and increase control throughout your whole body. All levels welcome!
SPINNING W/LAURA – A fun and upbeat cycling class for people of all athletic levels. Get ready for a workout of hills and interval training that will get your body in shape!
SPINNING W/PHIL – Take a personal journey on these rides by losing yourself in the music and enjoying the ride INSTEAD of just riding. Intensity is up to you!
SPINNING DOUBLE – 90 minute class to build endurance, speed and power. Ideal for cross training & racing preparation.
STEP – A series of easy-to-follow combinations guaranteed to get your heart rate elevated. A sculpting session is included in the 60-minute class utilizing dumbbells, bands, etc. All levels of experience welcome.
SUNRISE YOGA – Wake up the right way. A whole body workout designed to strengthen, tone, and increase flexibility while incorporating the basic yogic principles of breathing and the mind/body connection. All levels welcome!
TABATA – A high intensity interval workout, of exercises performed for 8 rounds of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of recovery. This is a 45 minute class with upbeat music guaranteed to make you sweat! All levels welcome, modifications can be made.
T'AI CHI – Meditation in Movement. exercise that is practiced very slowly, emphasizing breathing; relaxation by learning to let go of tension in the joints; correct postural alignment and balance, through weight shifting and visualization techniques.
YOGA FLOW – This class is fitness-based focusing on flexibility and strength through breath work and Vinyasa, or flow of yoga postures.
ZUMBA – An exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness- class. This class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits."
